Tyrone Mims gick bort under gårdagen efter ha gått en amatör-MMA match på ”conflict MMA promotions; fight night at the point 6”.
Efter ha förlorat sin match mot Blake Poor fick Mims plötsligt problem i omklädningsrummet och blev körd till sjukhus. Dödsorsak är ännu okänd och obduktion ska genomföras senare i dag. Matchen gick av stapeln i Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Galan där händelsen inträffade bestämde sig för att avsluta kvällen när Mims fördes till sjukhuset.
Företaget som streamade galan ”Georgia Boys Grits-n-Glory” kommenterade händelsen så här via sin facebook-sida:
“The promoters and the South Carolina Fight Commission consulted with the fighters and all involved and decided as a result of the death of one of their own we should call off the rest of the fights. The promoters and the Athletic Commission did everything in their power according to protocol and this accident was beyond their control. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you’ll understand as we deal with the gravity of the situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with ‘Teesta’ and his immediate family, which include his five children. We will do anything in our power to assist his family in their time of need and ask all of our fans for their prayers and support.”

I Sout Carolina ska man genomgå fysisk undersökning, HIV testa sig, kolla så man inte har blodsjukdomar samt genomgå en oftalmologisk undersökning (oftalmologi är läran om ögat och dess sjukdomar) innan fightern får en licens.
Dödsfallet är de andra någonsin för amatör-MMA scenen i South Carolina. Första dödsfallat var 2010, Michael Kirkham som dog efter en hjärnblödning.
