Trying Indian Clubs

Got my Indian clubs yesterday, had to leave them bee due to stomach problems but today I made them work, feels really great so far…

Training wih Indian clubs goes back about 5000 years and is awesome for the shoulders, it creates mobility, strength and shoulder health.

Here’s a video of me trying out the clubs, first day.

How is your base?

The base, what’s that? Well depending on who you talk to the base is different things. What I’ll talk about is the base of your feet, the place where all your weight is when standing up/walking/running/jumping/fighting/dancing… Whatever you’re doing the feet is the base of your structure and therefore we have to treat them as that… the base.

We all need a strong foundation/base, if not, the house crumbles and falls in the end.

When we want any other part of the body stronger, we train it, when we have a problem with a weak knee, we train the muscles surrounding it to help keep the knee in “shape” or to get it in better “shape”.

When our feet or ankles are weak we put them in a running shoe that supports the valve of the foot and prohibits pronation/suppination… Isn’t it strange that we strengthen every other part of the body by training it to improve it and at the same time we make the feet/ankles weaker by supporting them with external support? A broken arm will loose 40-60% of it’s strength in about 2 weeks, what will happen to the muscles in your feet when you constantly support them with a “cast” that stops the usage of the muscles… they’ll become weaker and you go to get another pair of orthodics to support your feet some more… and the downward spiral begins (of course there is exceptions to this, like malformed feet and so on, I talk about the the “normal foot”)

Running shoes is like a boxing glove, the boxing glove takes away the pain in your face but the vibrations still hit the brain… your running shoe does just that, it takes away the pain in your heel but the vibrations of the impact (=your body weight x 4-5 times -  some even say 6-10 times) still affect your ankles, knees, spine and the tissues surrounding them.

We’re not made to run on the heel, just take a look at how your foot is built, there is no cushioning under the heel, on the other hand your ankle, calf, knee, thigh, hamstring is a spring made to support your weight while running.

To test this, just go run barefoot on a hard surface and see what happens, yes barefoot (or in a pair of flat soled shoes if it’s cold outside)… that’s how we’re made, that’s how the body is naturally constructed to run, that’s what nature gave us. After running barefoot for a while you’ll feel a lot more explosive in your movements if you’re into sports. Remove all the artificial support and your body will start using all the muscles the way they are supposed to be used. A lot of people with running related issues has been freed of those issues when starting to run barefoot.

Make your base stronger and the rest of your structure will stand stronger.

A great book on this subject is Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

Here’s a great video on the subject, enjoy…

Resting and recovering

I’ve been resting since Thursday now, felt a bit cold and thought it might be a good idea. Now with the rest behind me I can tell that that was what was I needed to hit the training hard again.

Tomorrow morning I’ll get myself a session with Åke Bergvall who has been seen in The Zone and some other MMA fights over the years, with 21 MMA fights Åke is a steady rock to train with, full of knowledge and experience… Will be a great help in the journey towards the new cage on the 27/3.

Here’ the promo video for The Zone FC ‘Evolution’

Jesper Gunnarsson posted some photos of the new cage and it looks awesome, 8 m across… awesome!

Well, tomorrow its back to the gym to attack the cast iron weights and train with Åke in the morning, in the evening I’ll teach Krav Maga, life’s great :)

Signing for a fight – some thoughts

Signing for a fight – some thoughts

A few days ago I signed for a professional MMA fight at The Zone FC Evolution that will be held in Lisebergshallen in Gothenburg, Sweden on the 27th of March. A lot of things change... the mental state of the mind starts to focus and everything feels more "real" now. It's a really interesting feeling that makes me think of the intensity of the last days before the fight and at the fight day itself... at the moment I feel really excited to prepare for the fight and even more excited to get in the cage and fight... I have no idea how it'll feel when fight night comes but that's all part of the adventure of signing up for the fight.

Teaching Krav Maga Has started to feel even more intense now, I feel much more alert and ready to teach and share KM to my students, who has shown a great support since the news came out. Than you so much for the support to everyone at www.kravmagaacademy.se, see you at the gym!

My training will consist of MMA-training, physical training with Kettlebells and FMS-work to open up my body and increase my fundamental movement patterns.

I will fight in -84 kg and it feels good, my weight is on track for the fight. The weight cut is another thing that is completely new to me, it also adds to the whole experience.

Tomorrow will be kettlebell training and MMA traning with the fighters in Team Tenacity, can't wait to go train!

BTW... Sponsors are welcome ;)
